The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Manager to provide a critical role at the Beechworth Correctional Centre.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. The Beechworth Correctional Centre is a minimum-security facility with a focus on preparing individuals for release and successful reintegration back into society. It offers various working industries, giving individuals the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will effectively link them to employment upon release. When not engaged in work, the people in our care attend rehabilitative programs to address their offending behaviour, engage in education and visits with many also engaging in recreation and community assistance programs.
About the Role
The role of the Industry Manager is to prepare people in our care for release and to enhance post release employment opportunities through prisoner employment, integrated on the job training, targeted educational opportunities and personal development programs and activities.
The Industry Manager is responsible for the high level, day-to-day operational needs of the prison, in a changing environment, contributing to the ongoing strategic planning, implementation and improvement of prison industry operations. The role will be responsible for managing a team of custodial industry officers delivering a range of correctional services for which the incumbent will require exceptional leadership skills.
As the Industry Manager, some of your duties will include:
* Leading, managing and maintaining a viable prisoner industry and employment program within the facility while ensuring the safety and security of people in custody, visitors and staff.
* Coaching and leading a team using LEAN principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence.
* Collaborating with and providing input to Case Managers, Employment Pathways staff and other relevant roles and areas to support individuals in their employment journey both before and after release.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* A demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners and stakeholders in the delivery of an integrated approach to reducing re-offending.
* A strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety practices.
* Knowledge of risk management practices and their application in the corrections setting.
* Highly proficient people management skills.
Qualifications
* Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience and skill in areas relevant to commercial industry, correctional legislation, program delivery and, or offender management would be highly regarded.
* Cert IV in Training and Assessment would be highly regarded.
* Completion of (or willing to undertake) Corrections Victoria pre-service training.
