About the Role
As a member of the Clinical & Social Services Team, the Family Relationship Counsellor is responsible for:
Improving the skills and resilience of families and their members to respond to issues that put pressure on their relationships
Promoting social inclusion through providing participants with knowledge about supports available within their communities
Providing therapeutic counselling to individuals, families, groups, children, and young people
Developing and facilitating psychological health and wellbeing educational services to individuals or groups
Ensuring services are provided in accordance with relevant funding guidelines and standards including services in accordance with the Family Law Act 1975
Participating in external program promotion and networking to ensure financial viability of the program
This role will also provide services under CatholicCare’s employee assistance program (Working Well) and may at times be required to provide outreach services on-site to clients.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Counselling, Social Sciences or Psychology, 1- 2 years relevant working experience and expertise to undertake the range of activities required
Current C or CA class driver’s license (QLD)
Must meet eligibility requirements for membership with relevant professional associations
Core Competencies
Demonstrated ability to respond to critical stress incidents and to post traumatic stress disorders
Ability to work within legal limitations around the right to confidentiality and privacy
Demonstrate strong cultural capability for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
Proficient digital literacy to support accurate documentation within CatholicCare’s chosen data management system
Ability to engage clients from diverse backgrounds and establish effective working relationships
In addition to the above, you will need:
Sound discipline knowledge gained through experience, training, or education
Knowledge of the Family Law Act 1975 and relevant amendments
Understanding the issues effecting families and children during separation
Knowledge of issues and appropriate responses to clients experiencing domestic and family violence, child abuse and self-harm
