Role overview

As a Mensline – Senior Practitioner, you will provide on-shift support by delivering quality mentorship and ongoing best practice advice. You will promote reflective practice, offer constructive guidance, and facilitate effective debriefing sessions. This role serves as the primary escalation point for Mensline Counsellors, and you will be expected to manage high-risk and complex cases unless otherwise directed by your Team Leader.

Additionally, you will actively contribute to managing and completing inbound referrals—such as those from the QLD Police, correctional centres, or court-ordered referrals—and respond to incoming calls from individuals seeking support. When handling inbound calls, you will be required to complete comprehensive DFV risk and needs assessments to determine whether the caller has recently or historically used violence, intended to use violence, or experienced interpersonal violence. Furthermore, you will be expected to demonstrate appropriate responses to managing risks and identifying individuals in need of protection.

In this role, you are expected to foster a cohesive workplace environment by maintaining strong professional relationships with external stakeholders, including government departments and non-government organisations, while building positive rapport with team members and the broader organisation. When required, you will support the Quality and Training team with Mensline training, the clinical induction and onboarding of new Mensline team members, and assist the Team Leader to ensure professional assessments align with DVConnect’s practice standards and the Human Services Quality Framework (HSQF).

Qualification requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, counselling, psychology or other relevant fields.

Position requirements

  • A minimum of 2 year’s specialist or senior practitioner level experience in the social and community services sector, preferably working directly or indirectly with DFSV victim-survivors or, perpetrators of DFSV. Other experience similar or relevant to this role will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability in assessing indicators of whether the caller is a person who uses violence or one who is subjected to violence in his personal relationship and demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to this assessment – risk assessment and safety planning skills required.
  • Core leadership skills evidenced by previous experience in training, guiding, and/or supporting a team – desirable .
  • Strong knowledge, understanding of the effects, causes and dynamics of domestic, family and sexual violence, and how DFSV relates to gender-based violence.
  • Experience (or strong understanding) providing supportive and culturally safe spaces for diverse communities – i.e., First Nations peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, identify with a diagnosed disability and LGBTQI+.
  • Confident computer and telephone multitasking skills. You must be able to efficiently type case notes during calls and maintain database accuracy.
  • Exceptional and effective interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and consultation skills.
  • Proven experience working with and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders, including both sector and non-sector partners.
  • Knowledge and understanding (or willingness to acquire) of the Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Domestic Violence Orders and Child Protection Act 1999.
  • Right to work in Australia (unrestricted).
  • Hold a valid (P) BlueCard (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid ID

Remuneration

  • SCHADS Award Level 5 ($49.77p/hr – $52.03p/hr). Pay point is dependent on qualifications and level of relevant experience.
  • 11.5% super.
