The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is ramping up efforts to combat fire ants in high-risk areas across South East Queensland and is seeking experienced professionals to join the Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce (FAST) as part of a major aerial treatment program.We are currently recruiting for multiple AO6, AO5, AO3 and OO3 contract roles to support the coordination, delivery and administration of this critical biosecurity initiative.
AO6 – Senior Project Officer (Extension) – 1 Position $76.50 per hour | South East QLD
Lead a team of Project Officers and oversee stakeholder engagement, data collection and project delivery related to aerial fire ant treatments. This role will also coordinate landholder outreach and ensure strong governance of all project activities.
AO5 – Project Officers (Extension) – 6 Positions $66.86 per hour | South East QLD
Work directly with large landholders, primary producers and key stakeholders to implement fire ant suppression plans. Support aerial treatment operations by coordinating outreach, monitoring compliance, and delivering technical advice under Queensland’s biosecurity legislation.
AO3 – Administration Officers (Operations Support) – 2 Positions $49.40 per hour | South East QLD
Provide essential mapping, administrative and data support to the FAST aerial operations. This includes preparing high-accuracy maps, maintaining project records, and supporting the coordination of large-scale treatment activities.
OO3 – Operations Officers (Monitoring & Logistics) – 2 Positions $42.25 per hour | South East QLD
Support field-based operations by collecting and recording fire ant density data before and after aerial treatment. Assist with logistics and the delivery of treatment products to landholders and aerial contractors. You'll work autonomously while maintaining meticulous data records and supporting operational efficiency.
✅ What You’ll Need
- A current, unrestricted ‘C’ class driver’s licence
- Ability to commence quickly and work from Berrinba, Mutdapilly , or other DPI/NFAEP sites
- Australian citizenship, permanent residency or valid work rights
- High attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a team-focused mindset
- Experience working with large landholders or in rural/agricultural settings
- Stakeholder engagement or natural resource management qualifications
- Experience with GIS mapping systems such as ArcGIS (AO3 roles)
- Forklift or order picker licence (OO3 roles)
- Previous work within government or regulated environments
