As a permanent, full-time Fleet Inspection Officer, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the safety, compliance, and operational excellence of Blacktown’s extensive fleet.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or a similar qualification
  • Qualified mechanic or technician with solid experience in heavy vehicles
  • Current, valid Heavy Vehicle Licence (such as HR or MC class) as per local transport regulations
  • Relevant inspection or compliance certifications, such as the Authorised Vehicle Examiner (AVE) qualification or equivalent, which allows individuals to legally conduct heavy vehicle inspection
  • Post trade qualifications and experience in this specialised trade including heavy vehicle RMS Pink Slip Accreditation
  • Solid experience in supervision.

Desirable:

  • Diploma in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field • Additional certifications in specialised areas such as brake testing, suspension systems, or electronic control systems are also advantageous
  • Familiarity with fleet management software or vehicle inspection databases
  • Experience in compliance auditing, especially in the heavy vehicle sector, would be an asset
  • Knowledge of auditing frameworks like the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) or the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) is beneficial
  • Additional training or certification in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, which are essential in heavy vehicle operation
  • Previous experience supervising or leading a team of mechanics or inspectors
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and training to junior staff members
  • Commitment to staying updated with industry changes, particularly emerging technologies in electric and hydrogen-powered heavy vehicles and regulations related to emissions and environmental standards.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,798.21 per week
  • 35-hour working week
  • Leaseback vehicle
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
