About the opportunity

There is currently one (1) fixed term (until 31 December 2026) part time position with the possibility of extension and/or permanency available for immediate filling. The successful applicant will be required to work 6 hours per day, 7 days per fortnight. This is 7 days on, 7 days off roster.

Become a key member of our Shark Response Unit (SRU) and contribute to the safety of our communities by supporting the effective management of shark hazard mitigation projects. As an Operations Support Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Shark Notification System, ensuring that critical information is communicated clearly and promptly to key stakeholders and the public in the event of a shark incident. Your role will involve contributing to the continuous improvement of policies and processes within the Shark Response team, helping to shape the way we respond to these vital public safety issues. You will also provide essential support to DPIRD compliance field staff, assisting with tasks such as licence checks, data collection, and reporting requirements. This position offers an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in operational support, incident management, and public safety.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • Well-developed working knowledge of maintaining either databases, electronic records, and/or systems management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an attention to detail, and the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative to resolve issues and problems, work with limited direction and meet deadlines.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant’s expense.

This pool will be valid for a period of twelve (12) months following finalisation of the process and may be used to fill other same/similar permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies with the possibility of extension or permanency at locations listed in this advert.
