Our client is a high-profile Federal Government agency located in South Canberra.

The Opportunity
Working in this small but growing team within the agency, you will be part of the external budgets team. Your team will be responsible for developing costings and associated models to support the agency’s submissions, new policy proposals, budget briefings, presentations, and other financial reporting.
You will have the opportunity to get involved in some exciting initiatives. This role is a vacant position, preferably offered via S26 transfer for an existing APS employee. For those who are not permanent Federal Government employees, this role offers a non-ongoing 12-month contract.
Flexible working arrangements and remote working will be offered to the right candidates.
The Role
As the Manager of External Budgets, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing a junior staff member to deliver the agency’s external budget function and prepare briefings for executives on budget initiatives
  • Producing high-quality financial modelling, budget costings, and input for Portfolio Budget Statements within required timeframes in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Developing budget financial models, costings, and reports, as well as providing advice and presenting issues to senior executives
  • Generating Portfolio Budget Statements
  • Conducting research and assessment to identify changes to the agency’s policy environment and applicable Commonwealth budgetary rules, ensuring key budget documentation reflects current policy positions and complies with requirements
The Ideal Person
You are an experienced EL1 External Budget Specialist with Federal Government experience and a strong understanding of Commonwealth budget processes and the Resource Management Framework.
Key skills and attributes include:
  • Proficiency in Excel and excellent written communication skills
  • Knowledge of APS external budget estimate processes (highly regarded but not essential)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
Applicant MUST be Australian Citizens and have an existing baseline security clearance to be considered for this opportunity.
Salary / Rate
$120k - $135k + Super or salary match
