Duties Professional Standards Command Internal Investigations Unit (IIU) has recently expanded to allow for family violence and sexual abuse (including child sexual abuse) involving police to be investigated separately to other matters, and with specialisation in a trauma informed practice that is victim centric. The investigation support officer is a critical component within the investigative team whose objective is achieving strong outcomes in matters that are sensitive and can be complex, fast-paced and dynamic. This is an exciting opportunity to hold a newly created position and to be part of a brand-new initiative to provide improved support to investigators and victim-survivors (police or civilian) of family violence and sexual abuse (including child sexual abuse) involving police. Essential Requirements

Pre-Employment Checks

The Head of the State Service has determined that a person nominated for appointment to this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. Any relevant serious criminal offence or repeated serious offences over any period, which are not mitigated by additional information, may provide grounds for declining an application for appointment. Such offences would include, but are not limited to:

  • Arson and fire setting;
  • Sexual offences;
  • Dishonesty (e.g. theft, burglary, breaking and entering, fraud);
  • Deception (e.g. obtaining an advantage by deception);
  • Making false declarations;
  • Violent crimes and crimes against the person;
  • Malicious damage and destruction to property
  • Trafficking of narcotic substance;
  • False alarm raising.
Desirable Requirements
  • High level of skills in administrative support and project related work would be a competitive advantage.
  • Relevant experience as an intelligence support officer, analyst or comparative role in a law enforcement agency.
  • Completion of a relevant tertiary degree.
