Duties
The Interstate Liaison Officer (ILO) undertakes a critical function in fostering effective communication, collaboration and coordination in regard to child protection matters and the exchange of confidential information between Australian States, Territories and New Zealand.
ILOs provide a high level of liaison and advice services to ensure the seamless coordination and timely transfer of care and protection orders and court proceedings between Tasmania and other Australian jurisdictions while prioritising the best interests of the child.
ILOs also provide expert advice and practice leadership to senior managers and other departmental staff in the management of complex and novel interstate matters and enquiries.
The ILO is responsible for coordinating and managing in a timely way all incoming and outgoing interstate requests regarding children subject to various levels of child protection interventions and statutory Care and Protection Orders, as well as managing all Commonwealth privacy information requests.
Period of Appointment
ASAP for 12 Months
Applicants should be aware that for twelve (12) months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill any subsequent full-time or part-time vacancies in accordance with Employment Direction 1.

Essential Requirements
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment).
- A tertiary qualification approved by the relevant National Board, for example a Bachelor of Social Work, and eligibility for membership with the relevant National Board or professional association; or
- An alternative tertiary qualification (AQF Level 7 Qualification) in a discipline considered relevant to the duties, for example Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Psychology, Bachelor of Youth Work, Bachelor of Psychological Science; or
- An Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (AQF Level 5 or 6 Qualification) in a discipline considered relevant to the duties, for example a Diploma in Community Services.
- The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
- Conviction checks in the following areas:
- crimes of violence
- sex related offences
- serious drug offences
- crimes involving dishonesty
- serious traffic offences
- Identification check
- Disciplinary actions in previous employment check
