Description:

The role is responsible for leading and supporting the establishment and delivery of an effective regulatory scheme, efficient regulatory operations and compliance and enforcement functions. The role will develop and oversee systems and processes for timely and high-quality compliance and enforcement operations, decision-making and action, supporting delivery of the regulatory strategy for the National Code.

As Assistant Director – Compliance and Enforcement you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing high performing teams, maintaining positive working relationships, a positive team culture and taking reasonable care of your own health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Providing operational leadership by providing direction to team members, including setting the direction of work priorities, monitoring workflows and resources, developing, coaching, and mentoring staff and managing performance.
  • Leading the development of risk thresholds and standard operating procedures to support the operation of the Unit.
  • Providing technical advice at an advanced professional level and regulatory expertise to team members.
  • Developing and applying precedent, policy, procedures and guidelines to situations involving a high level of complexity and sensitivity which require considerable interpretation and analysis.
  • Exercising sound judgment under a risk-based framework when assessing complex and time critical matters.
  • Developing, conducting and reporting on audit and quality control activities.
  • Leading accurate and timely research, analysis and interpretation of complex information to inform decisions, and rulemaking.
  • Interpreting and applying legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Developing and drafting briefs, reports, and publications for a variety of internal and external stakeholders including senior executives.
  • Reviewing and assessing whole-of-organisation prevention and response plans and reporting and working collaboratively with subject matter and other experts across the Unit.
  • Contributing to the development of clear and comprehensive regulatory guidance and advice to assist the higher education sector to understand and comply with their legal duties under the National Code.
  • Developing productive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Representing the Department in stakeholder engagements and meetings with senior sector stakeholders.
  • Managing and leading the preparation and writing of complex briefing papers and recommendations.
  • Leading the planning, implementation and management of other strategic priorities as required.
Eligibility

Employment at the Department of Education is subject to conditions prescribed within the
Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship: Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
  • Security Clearance: This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
