We are looking for an experienced Transition Officer to join the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre for a temporary full-time position until 19th September 2025, unless otherwise determined.As the Transition Officer, you will work collaboratively with the Head of Department (HOD) and key stakeholders from interdepartmental agencies to assist young people in successfully transitioning from a youth detention facility to employment, training or educational pathways in the community. About QETC
QETC is a multi-campus Department of Education school operating within South-East Queensland's Youth Detention Centres at Wacol. QETC is a school that caters to male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and values to pursue positive choices in the future.
About The Role
The Transition Officer is responsible for meeting placement and outcome targets by successfully engaging and supporting students to transition into education and employment and sustaining their placement post-detention. The Transition Officer collaborates with a range of stakeholders, including students and carers, Queensland Government partner agencies, and agencies from the broader service system. As the Transition Officer, you will work closely with the HOD to enact the school's strategic agenda and participate in quality improvement activities, including data collection and analysis, program review and evaluation and implementation of innovative practices.
Responsibilities Include, But Not Limited To
- Plan and facilitate the transition to employment, training and/or educational settings for students in youth detention in collaboration with students and relevant stakeholders.
- Establish rapport and maintain resilient relationships with students to motivate their engagement in learning, as appropriate to student's individual circumstances, to enable successful transition plan outcomes.
- Be accountable for assigned cases to progress transition plans, including undertaking appropriate case management, advocacy and support, prioritising daily caseload, communicating with transition partners and students and implementing agreed approaches.
- Communicate expectations of the transition program with students and stakeholders as required to develop their understanding of career and learning pathways and promote the importance of continued education for students while in detention.
