About the role

As a Senior Assessments Officer, you will provide expert heritage advice on approval pathways, as well as advice on the effective management and conservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites and values, built heritage, relics, items, and sites. You will also be responsible for preparing accurate and timely written reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence on a range of assessment and approval matters.

As a Senior Assessments Officer within the Heritage Assessments Branch, you will be responsible for undertaking the assessment of a range of statutory and non-statutory applications and referrals for projects across NSW, as well as provide expert advice on complex document packages that manage the delivery of best practice in Aboriginal cultural heritage and heritage management and conservation. You will take the lead in engaging with key stakeholders on multi-year projects on some of NSW’s most iconic heritage places to promote adaptive reuse, activation, and renewal.

About you

The successful applicant must exhibit strong communication skills and be confident liaising with diverse stakeholder groups at all levels. You will be committed to delivering results, quality outcomes and excellent customer service. You will be required to build strong relationships across government agencies and other key stakeholders and bring a collaborative approach to information sharing, proactive planning, and effective development of key projects, as well as range of approval processes. The ability to manage multiple competing priorities whilst delivering within statutory timeframes and a willingness to undertake site visits within NSW is essential.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in heritage management/conservation, Aboriginal heritage, architecture, archaeology, planning or relevant heritage discipline or demonstrated extensive experience in a relevant heritage field.
  • Current driver’s licence.
