About the Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Indigenous & Community Liaison to join our team on a major oil and gas project based in Darwin. This role is pivotal in supporting our First Nations Peoples team members, fostering strong community relationships, and enhancing cultural awareness across the workforce. You will provide ongoing support to First Nations team members on site, ensuring a positive work environment, and conduct structured reviews with team members and their supervisors, offering feedback and identifying further support opportunities.

Additionally, you will build and maintain strong ties with the First Nations Peoples community to help promote available job opportunities, contribute to the development and implementation of engagement initiatives with the broader Darwin community, and play a key role in advancing workforce cultural awareness initiatives to enhance inclusivity.


Your day-to-day includes:

  • Coordinate implementation of the objectives, strategies, and actions of Altrad Services’ Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) at the project level
  • Support the effective education and implementation of Altrad Services’ Inclusivity and Diversity Policy
  • Support the HRIR Advisor, management and front‐line leaders in attaining awareness of all culturally sensitive issues or practices that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) members may be required to undertake
  • Support ATSI team members by building strong ties with them and conducting structured reviews with them and their supervisors to enable open communication and a healthy feedback loop
  • Establish connections with the ATSI community and build positive and effective relationships and networks, enhancing and establishing engagement opportunities for both individuals and businesses
  • Implement comprehensive ATSI community engagement and capacity building initiatives which promote inclusion and cultural awareness
  • Support the recruitment team with the development of targeted advertisement of available opportunities for ATSI individuals and businesses
  • Participating in interviews of prospective ATSI candidates and contributing to the assessment of suitability and ultimate selection in conjunction with the functional SMEs
  • Develop community outreach programs aimed at fostering positive relationships with the local community and further improve Altrad’s and the project’s recognition within it

About you

  • Experience in First Nations Focal Point, Coordination, or Liaison roles is essential for community engagement and support.
  • Background in energy, mining, or construction industries is desirable as it helps in understanding project dynamics
  • You pride yourself as someone who leads with empathy, fostering collaboration, and working towards a common goal with respect and inclusivity.
  • Strong relationships with the First Nations community are essential for fostering trust and supporting meaningful engagement.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required for communication and reporting.
  • The role is to be based at the work site, however, demonstrate flexibility necessary to attend engagements elsewhere
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills for preparing reports and engaging with diverse individuals.
  • Willingness to take on various tasks, both on-site and off-site, for a dynamic work environment.
