Primary objective
To provide expert management and service delivery of comprehensive coordination of Eye Health Services in acute, primary and tertiary
environments across NT Health.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide coordination across the spectrum of eye health to improve access to eye care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
2. Provide linkages between multiple eye health programs and the relevant public health and eye health stakeholders, including the
development of strong internal and external partnerships
3. Manage multiple Commonwealth funded programs including Medical Outreach Indigenous Chronic Disease Program, Rural Health
Outreach Fund–Ophthalmology component, Visiting Optometrists Scheme (VOS) and Eye and Ear Surgical Support
4. Provide oversight of the operations of the VOS program including, but not limited to: procurement, travel, planning, reporting and
preparation for external provider quarterly meetings
5. Analyse the changing needs of different communities across the NT to identify and prioritise the allocation of limited resources
6. Develop, monitor and adapt multiple budgets and activity work plans in line with Commonwealth guidelines
7. Represent NT Health on various eye health committees to improve coordination across the sector
8. Provide high level accurate reporting for the RDPH Ophthalmology Department and the Commonwealth programs on a monthly and
biannual basis to support strategic decision making and advocate for the clients of the eye health programs
9. Lead the orthoptic department at Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospital and liaise with Executive Director of Allied Health
10. Coordination, administration, providing team leadership and liaison the day to day activities of the eye clinic: clinic scheduling,
managing leave periods to maintain service continuity and working collaboratively with the clinical Head of Department to ensure
good clinical governance.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for registration with Orthoptics Australia or Optometry Australia and hold a current annual practicing certificate.
2. Demonstrated high-level communication (verbal and written), leadership and interpersonal skills, with an ability to resolve conflict,
manage change, negotiate appropriate outcomes and develop practical innovative solutions to issues.
3. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team, work in partnership and collaboration and manage multi-faceted complex
issues within required timelines.
4. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, analyse and review quality activities, and maintain relevant data using NT Health clinical
systems to ensure effective client outcomes.
5. Awareness of cross-cultural and social issues including an ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures while
maintaining the principles of client confidentiality.
6. Willingness and ability to travel for long distances to remote communities by road and light aircraft
7. Ability to analyse cost centre reports and establish the relationship between activity and expenditure to make strategic decisions
8. Demonstrated experience in the use of computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets, emails, records management, and
database.
Desirable
1. Qualifications in health service management, project management or business.
2. Knowledge of and experience using NT Health information systems.
3. Understanding of NT geography and demography.
