Gur A Baradharaw Kod Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander Corporation (“GBK”) is a dynamic, purpose-driven organisation based in the Torres Strait region. We are the peak body of all Registered Native Title Bodies Corporates (“PBCs”) in the Torres Strait – providing Native Title legal support, employment and capacity development services to PBCs and remote First Nation communities.
At our core, GBK works with native title holders and stakeholders to achieve economic, social and cultural development for the communities of the Torres and Endeavour Straits.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified and experienced finance professional to directly support building the capacity of First Nation-owned and operated businesses.
The role will lead the development of a highly skilled team of accounting and finance professionals who are passionate about making a difference. The team will focus on delivering responsive financial and business administrative services to First Nations organisations.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance manager with a passion for building capacity for First Nations and NFP businesses across Australia by providing expert financial management skills in a clear and accessible way.
This role is responsible for:
- Financial Leadership: Oversee finance functions, including reporting, auditing, budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and internal controls.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor the administration team, manage recruitment, KPIs, performance reviews, and professional development.
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure financial practices align with Australian Accounting Standards, company policies, and relevant regulations. Conduct internal audits and prepare for external audits.
- Stakeholder Relations: Maintain positive relationships with client, suppliers, subcontractors, clients, and internal teams. Provide timely and accurate financial information for decision-making.
- Business Improvement: Engage in benchmarking, financial analysis, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
About You
You will be a CA/CPA-qualified accounting professional with experience working with small and medium organisations. You will have exceptional interpersonal skills, a process improvement mindset, and the ability to supervise a high-performing team.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, Sharepoint, and OneDrive, as well as accounting software packages (such as Xero and MYOB) essential
