Description:

The South Australian State Emergency Service (SES) is a reliable and trusted volunteer-based organisation that provides emergency assistance and rescue services to the people of South Australia 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The SES is comprised of approximately 1,750 volunteers based in 69 units across South Australia, supported by a team of full time professional and specialist staff.

The SES is seeking applications from suitably experienced, qualified and motivated individuals to provide high level strategic leadership across SES corporate services, operational support, emergency management and hazard planning, volunteer recruitment and retention, risk and governance and information systems functions.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead and monitor the implementation of the SES Business Excellence Framework and SES Corporate Risk Management Framework.

  • Lead organisation culture projects which foster an engaged and thriving workplace environment.

  • Ensure effective strategic, business, workforce and financial plans are developed, implemented and reviewed.

  • Ensure the effective and efficient management of human, financial and physical resources including monitoring and regularly reporting for budget expenditure and performance outcome, ensuring compliance with budget requirements and Treasurer's Instructions and oversee the development of strategic budget initiatives.

  • Foster a sound working relationship with the Minister's Office, including strategic events and initiatives.

  • Oversee SES' engagement in Parliamentary, Ministerial and Cabinet processes and associated briefings.

  • Identify, establish and maintain high-level relationships with external and internal stakeholder groups at state and national levels and ensuring high service delivery in relation to customer needs and stakeholder expectation.

  • Ensure the effective management of staff within the portfolio by applying the principles of public administration and personnel management giving full regard to the merit principle, equal employment opportunity and significantly contributing to the provision of a safe and healthy work environment for staff.

  • Provide leadership in ensuring a safety culture throughout the SES.

  • Monitor, analyse and provide advice on emerging organisational, government, community and emergency service issues and trends.

  • Represent SES and provide high level input to sector, state and national workgroups and committees.

  • Participate as part of the strategic incident management structure during significant operational incidents.
