Located 11km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. Our process involves Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis and Casting with sales to both domestic and international markets.

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Environmental Technician is responsible for conducting environmental monitoring for Sun Metals.
Key responsibilities:
- Collect and dispatch of environmental samples including surface water, ground water, sediment and other samples;
- Enter results into a database, prepare graphs and reports;
- Undertake maintenance and calibration checks on monitoring equipment and organise repairs as required;
- Provide assistance to specialist contractors in the collection of other samples as required.
- Provide assistance to the environment department as required
To be successful in this role you will have the following competencies:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or related disciplines.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of environment monitoring requirements.
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedure.
- Heavy industry experience is desirable, ideally working in environmental management in a mining or resource industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Current manual driver’s license.
- Current boat licence (desirable)
- Ability to work independently.
