Join SLSQ as a Communications Coordinator and be at the heart of our emergency response efforts. In this fast-paced role, you’ll manage incident information, coordinate resources, and communicate with emergency services and the public to ensure swift and effective action. This position is based in our State Operations Communications Centre on the Gold Coast (Mermaid Beach).

What You'll Do:

  • Effective Communication & Collaboration: build strong, professional relationships and work seamlessly as part of the SOCC team.
  • Incident Management: receive and assess urgent and non-urgent requests, triage, and take action based on SLSQ standard procedures.
  • Resource Dispatch & Management: dispatch and oversee multiple resource responses simultaneously, ensuring efficient coordination.
  • Liaison: work closely with operational staff and other service providers to ensure timely and effective resource mobilisation.
  • Fitness for Duty: stay physically and mentally fit for duty, seeking support when needed to maintain health and well-being.
  • Team Supervision & Support: lead the dispatch team, providing guidance, resources, and support for their success.

About You:

  • Working with Children Blue Card.
  • Certificate II in Public Safety or;

Beach patrol experience, emergency service experience in an operational role, or emergency operations centre experience.

  • Demonstrable commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people.
  • Moderate understanding of child safety and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
  • Flexibility for the rotating roster system including weekend work.
  • Minimum typing speed 40 wpm and +90% accuracy.
  • Broad computer competence including Microsoft Office and web-based data systems.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and the ability to manage high-pressure situations while fostering teamwork.
