About the role

The Operating Theatres at Ipswich Hospital consists of 7 Operating Theatres, and the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) which comprises 16 beds and operates as a 24-hour service seven-days a week – managing adult, obstetric, and paediatric patients. Additionally, the Anaesthetic / PACU nursing team support GA MRI patients in Medical Imaging.

The aim of the Operating Theatre is to deliver high quality, evidence based, efficient and patient focused perioperative services to the West Moreton Community by continually improving the service to align with the priorities of the West Moreton Health Strategic Plan. We also strive to support, encourage, and develop all staff who work within the service ensuring a culture of learning resulting in a capable and educated nursing workforce.

Senior nursing staff are required to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge in the care of the perioperative patients and deliver expert nursing care in complex situations, while providing support and direction to other team members. The PACU CN works alongside the anaesthetic CN and the Operating Theatre Floor Coordinator each shift. Additionally, this position will also be trained in anaesthetic nursing and is expected to be able to assist as required and manage a constantly changing environment.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

• Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the area of anaesthetic nursing delivering expert nursing care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members.

• Ability to prioritise clinical and related administrative duties, including effective and efficient planning and organisation of complex caseloads with proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.

• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.

• Demonstrates a strong team commitment through ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

• Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff and manage delegated resources including prioritising needs and supporting day-to -day changes.
