About Our Team:

The Wheeled Products Engineering (WPE) Light Fabrications team supports Large Mining Trucks, Large Wheel Loaders, Off-Highway Trucks, Wheel Tractor Scrapers, Articulated Trucks and Hard Rock Vehicles. Engineers on our team gain broad exposure to design, analysis, test, manufacturing and supplier collaboration while working on new product designs, as well as, resolved issues on current models. Each team member plays an important role in developing and continuously improving the features, quality and cost on across the product groups we support.

About The Opportunity:

This is an Engineering TL position on the Wheeled Product Engineering (WPE) Light Fabrications team that supports Hard Rock Vehicles (HRV) product. The HRV product line consists of both underground mining loaders and trucks. Both new product design and design improvements to current products are in scope for all the major light fabrications subsystems (e.g. access systems, hoods, fenders, platforms, fuel tanks, guards, and enclosures).

  • Manages multiple or complex engineering projects involving multiple functions, organisations, products, or value chains.

  • Develop project scope to address business challenges and opportunities.

  • Coordinating resources across sales and marketing, product development groups, value chain and manufacturing.

  • Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.

  • Directing project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members.

  • APQP quality management – Co-ordinate between engineering, manufacturing teams and suppliers to support gathering requirements, facilitate TFC discussions and PPAP development.

  • Data Analysis & Extraction - Analyze data to provide recommendations, and when necessary, extract data required to confirm conclusions or results.

  • Failure Prevention & Resolution – Place priority on preventing failures using available processes and tools, and when necessary, quickly identify root cause of failures and suggest robust solutions.

Key Skills Required:

  • Products and Services : Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives and clients.

  • Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.

  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyse and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering, or Materials Science curriculum and 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, or 15+ years of progressive engineering experience.

The Top Candidates will also have:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree.

  • Previous experience designing light fabrications components.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in collaborative environment and to communicate effectively in cross functional teams.

  • Executed all phases of at least one major new product development program.

  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to optimise designs for manufacturability.

  • Experience directing the work of other design and detailing resources to achieve design goals.

  • Personal experience in executing APQP from beginning to end.

  • Hands-on experience (e.g. machinery, heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, welding, etc.)
