We are looking for a strategic leader as our ‘ Manager Portfolio Investment & Governance’ , within our newly established Digital Portfolio Management Office (PMO). This is a permanent hire which can be based in any of our key locations, across Queensland including Brisbane (Newstead), Toowoomba, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Cairns, Mackay or Townsville.

The Digital Division has recently undergone a large change / transformation project, resulting in the establishment of a brand new directive PMO structure. The PMO function is to operate at a strategic level in collaboration with senior executives across the business. The team is responsible for coordinating, orchestrating and assuring initiatives within the Digital Portfolio to achieve desired business outcomes. Our team’s vision is to become a centre of excellence in portfolio management, driving efficiency, innovation and continuous improvement within Energy Queensland.
The Opportunity:
The ‘Manager Portfolio Investment & Governance’ will lead / grow a critical team within the new PMO Department. This role ensures the Digital portfolio aligns with Energy Queensland’s business objectives and digital plans. It balances investment priorities based on value, impact and alignment with goals, while considering implementation capacity.
The Portfolio Investment Governance and Assurance team optimises and prioritises investments to maximise value and strategic impact, providing governance, oversight, and a framework for evaluating benefits. Acting as a link between strategy and execution, this team maintains the high-level Program of Work (PoW) throughout initiation and delivery.
The ‘Manager Portfolio Investment & Governance’ will manage resource demand and portfolio dependencies, providing insights for informed decisions and ensuring the Digital program is aligned, optimised, and governed with integrity.
Key accountabilities will include:
The Manager Portfolio Investment & Governance will oversee the development and prioritisation of the Digital portfolio based on its value, impact, and alignment with Energy Queensland's strategic objectives. You will provide regular portfolio overviews, identify risks and opportunities, and make data-driven decisions. This role involves controlling the integrated portfolio schedule, providing assurance, and identifying solutions to ensure quality outcomes.
You will engage and manage stakeholders effectively, collaborating with key stakeholders to oversee the development of Digital work. Establishing KPIs and metrics to track portfolio performance, you will develop dashboards and reports for visibility to executives. You will govern the high-level Program of Work (PoW) and provide assurance on portfolio dependencies and prioritisation decisions.
The role requires optimising investment plans to inform regulatory submissions and business plans. You will develop a benefits realisation framework to evaluate the value of digital changes. Creating standards, frameworks, and processes for effective portfolio governance is essential.
As a leader, you will manage a multidisciplinary team, providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring to ensure high performance. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, you will implement quality assurance processes. A commitment to health, safety, and the environment, and support for a diverse and inclusive workplace, are crucial.
Experience Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in IT, Business, or related field.
- Ability to synthesise complex information and anticipate business needs to proactively provide advanced data modelling, and portfolio performance insights.
- Experience in governance, project, and portfolio management in a regulated environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Strategic thinker with problem-solving skills.
- Project management expertise, especially in Digital and SAP projects.
- Operational management in complex settings.
- Experience with project management methodologies and agile contexts.
- Ability to work with strategic partners to deliver projects.
