About Ravenhall Correctional Centre
Ravenhall Correctional Centre is part of The GEO Group Australia, based west of Melbourne and is Victoria's largest prison for adult sentenced and unsentenced males. It's contemporary campus-style design provides a safe and humane environment that enables and nurtures GEO's Continuum of Care operating philosophy.
Ravenhall also has a dedicated Forensic Mental Health Unit, a specialised Closed Supervision Unit for prisoners with significant challenging behaviours, and a small Mission Based Unit for prisoners who have never been in custody before. In recognition of the importance of Continuum of Care, Ravenhall extends its presence into the community by providing ex-prisoners with access to post-release support at GEO’s Community Reintegration Centre.
About the Opportunity
As the Food Services Stores Officer you will be responsible for the purchasing, receiving, quality, storage, and issuing of food and beverage supplies / products on behalf of Catering Manager. In addition, the position performs inventory control duties and lead invoicing / cost centre reporting for all food and beverage related goods for the main kitchen.
You will primarily be responsible for:
- Ensure adequate stock is on hand for the kitchen meal preparation and the Centre’s general food supply requirements.
- Ensure food is properly stored in line with Australian Food Standards and maintained including proper stock rotation (i.e. FIFO) in fridges, freezers, etc.
- Perform inventory counts on a regular basis, inputting inventory counts into the Inventory Control sheet and work with the Coordinator to reconcile counts if there are variances.
- Ensure that prison workers are trained (and recorded) in the correct use of tools/cleaning procedures and OH&S standards.
- Ensure that all workers comply with OH&S requirements with respect to vehicle/forklift movement through the store area, and that drivers of such vehicles are qualified to do so.
- Supervise the daily routine and give clear instructions / direction to assist with the stores function.
- Receive, verify accuracy and quality of orders before confirming receipt and contacting suppliers of incomplete deliveries and follow up to verify / confirm future delivery expectations.
- Enter the goods received on the stock take into the incoming goods.
- Match the approved Purchase Orders to the delivery docket and invoice and passed on to Accounts for payments.
Your Skills & Experience
Required Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience and competence in purchasing / stores administration.
- Prior experience in stores, logistics, or warehousing operations
- Knowledge of or sound experience in food and beverage purchasing and receiving protocols.
- Possess and maintain current certification in safe food handling.
- Intermediate computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Have reasonable physical capacity to meet the needs of the role e.g must be able to lift up to 16kgs on a regular basis in line with safe handling practices.
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills the ability to work without supervision.
- Ability to work in a team environment with other staff and prison employees with the ability to communicate effectively with people from varying backgrounds.
- Current forklift license.
- Qualification in logistics or warehousing will be highly regarded
- Sound knowledge of OH&S requirements.
Desirable:
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery/Hospitality or higher qualification in Hospitality.
- Basic food handler certificate an advantage.
- Previous catering / kitchen experience an advantage.
- Current forklift license an advantage
