THE ROLE:

The Junior Patternmaker plays a crucial role to support the Pattern team and work alongside the Designers to create patterns, modify and be involved with the improvement of products to meet customer requirements.

The Junior Patternmaker is a hands-on and collaborative role. Other key tasks outside of patternmaking include garment QC, inspection reports, cutting and kitting for the sample room and updating specifications.

THE JUNIOR PATTERNMAKER ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interpret design sketches, create and alter patterns under the guidance of more experienced patternmakers.

  • Grade patterns, take pattern measurements and update size charts in Microsoft Excel.
  • Make markers for sampling and costing.
  • Fit and conduct quality inspections on prototype and pre-production samples, complete inspection reports. Strong attention to detail is required to eliminate as many inaccuracies as possible with local and overseas factories. Collaboratively work with other design team members and sample machinists.
  • Liaise between our Bendigo manufacturing facility, offshore factories and the design area.
  • Update sketches and specifications in Adobe Suite using Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Work with sample machinists to aid in the construction of the product. A comprehension and understanding of garment construction is essential. Cutting and kitting work for samples, sewing garment mocks as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Tertiary qualifications (Diploma level or above) in Fashion Design
  • Previous patternmaking experience is desired but not essential;
  • Understanding of garment design, construction and manufacturing is essential;
  • Basic knowledge (and keen interest) in fitting, sizing and grading is essential;
  • Ability to use Lectra patternmaking program is desired;
  • Ability to use the Adobe suite (Illustrator and InDesign in particular) or an equivalent computerized drawing program is desired;
  • Ability to use current word processing and spreadsheet packages;
  • Good oral/written communication and drawing skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a dynamic team.
