Description:
Support children’s learning through fun games and activities!
ROLE OBJECTIVE
Support a small group of primary school aged children from low socio-economic and/or non-English speaking backgrounds to learn, through a range fun and educational games and activities.
KEY TASKS
- Reading one on one with children and/or assisting with homework.
- Playing educational games with small groups, with a focus on literacy and numeracy.
- Set-up and pack up of the afternoon tea when required.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- As part of the background screening checks, North Carlton Railway Neighbourhood House expects that all volunteers undertake Police Checks (and Working with Children checks where the role involves children) and will follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Child Safety Policy.
KEY ATTRIBUTES
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
- Ability to build good rapport with children.
- Ability to work positively with children and provide a safe and supportive environment.
- Ability to develop plan appropriate activities for specific students.
- Experience working with children in a community-based setting is desirable but not essential
- Qualifications in an aspect of teaching, social or community work is desirable but not essential.
TIME COMMITMENT
Mondays 3.45pm – 5.00pm
LOCATION
North Carlton Railway Neighbourhood House is situated in Princess Hill, North Carlton.
TRAINING
On-the-job support.
