Description:
Ensure seamless integration of renewable energy assets into Australia's power grid and support the transition to a low-carbon energy future.
D'Arcy Weil is representing a leading Australian energy transmission company, responsible for ensuring the reliable delivery of electricity to millions of homes and businesses. As a key player in the energy sector, they are heavily involved in the integration of renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, and battery storage systems, into the grid. With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, they are at the forefront of supporting Australia’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
The Grid Modelling Engineer will play a critical role in optimising the integration of renewable energy assets into the transmission network, ensuring a stable and efficient grid operation.
About the Role
As a Grid Modelling Engineer , you will be responsible for developing and refining grid models to support the integration of renewable energy assets such as wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) into the electricity transmission network. You will use advanced modelling tools and simulation techniques to assess grid performance, identify potential issues, and recommend solutions that ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the grid.
Your work will be integral to ensuring that renewable energy generation is efficiently absorbed by the grid while maintaining system stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain grid models to simulate the integration of renewable energy assets (wind, solar, BESS) into the transmission network.
- Perform power flow analysis, fault analysis, and stability studies to assess grid performance and identify potential risks.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure the successful connection of renewable energy projects to the grid.
- Provide technical expertise and support in grid connection applications, ensuring compliance with grid codes and regulations.
- Optimise the operation of the grid to accommodate variable renewable energy generation while maintaining reliability and stability.
- Use modelling tools (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT, PSCAD) to simulate and analyse the behaviour of the grid under different conditions.
- Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and presentations to support decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
- Participate in industry forums and collaborate with regulators, developers, and other stakeholders to shape the future of grid integration for renewable energy projects.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in grid technology, renewable energy integration, and regulatory changes.
- Degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in grid modelling, power systems analysis, or a similar role, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
- Strong understanding of grid codes, regulations, and industry standards for renewable energy integration.
- Proficiency in grid modelling and simulation software such as PSS/E, DIgSILENT, PSCAD, or similar tools.
- In-depth knowledge of power system analysis, including power flow, stability, and fault analysis.
- Experience with renewable energy technologies (wind, solar, BESS) and their integration into the grid.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable energy integration projects.
- Access to the latest tools and resources to excel in your role.
- Flexible working arrangements to support personal and professional balance.
- A supportive and inclusive workplace culture focused on sustainability and innovation.
