The Department of Education (the department) is responsible for delivering and regulating state-wide learning and development services to approximately one-third of all Victorians across the early childhood and school education sectors. The department is also one of Victoria's biggest employers, with approximately 80,000 teaching staff and around 5,000 public service employees.
The Legal Division provides highly valued legal services to support the delivery of the department's strategic objectives, key reforms and to manage legal risk. In doing so, Legal Division provides direct, practical and strategic legal advice to portfolio ministers, the secretary, other senior staff and over 1,600 government schools, supporting approximately over 650,000 Victorian Government school students.
About the role - fixed-term, full-time
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal Division's Practice Support Unit (PSU), working with a talented and collaborative team of legal support staff to provide valued legal coordination and administrative services.
The PSU's key role is to provide business management, administrative and financial services to support the Legal Division to deliver highly valued legal services across the department's portfolios.
Key functions include the triage and allocation of requests for legal advice, financial administration, information technology and knowledge management, human resources, business planning, data analysis and reporting, budget management, risk and compliance monitoring.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative manner will be highly regarded.
About you
Are you:
- a confident communicator who can comfortably engage with a range of stakeholders at all levels
- a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude
- proactive and self-starting with the ability to identify systems and processes requiring improvement and encourage others to do the same
- proficient with a range of software applications to assist lawyers in managing legal matters
Candidates with demonstrated legal administration experience will be highly regarded. Candidates who are current law students looking for part-time work to complement their studies will also be considered.
