About the role:

The Trade team supports South Australian exporters to succeed globally by connecting them with international markets, offering expert advice, delivering targeted programs and promotions, enhancing export capabilities, and managing grants.

As the Senior Policy Advisor, Trade Policy and Analysis, you will report to the Manager, Trade Policy & Analysis to support and inform policy development and implementation through formal and informal liaison and engagement within and across the department and state government. You will develop, implement and evaluate policy and program proposals, and prepare briefings and submissions which support the international trade and economic growth strategies of the department.

More specifically, you will:

  • Provide high-level strategic policy advice
  • Develop accurate and timely written reports, briefings, submissions, and operational documents
  • Monitor, analyse and advise on major issues relevant to the trade and international portfolio, and provide concise written and spoken briefings to the senior stakeholders
  • Provide effective executive administration support to formal and informal committees, working groups, senior executive groups, and forums.
  • Develop and maintain relationships internal and external stakeholders at the National, State, and local level, to consult and negotiate sensitive policy matters

Key Competencies:

To apply and succeed in the role, you will have the ability to/sound working knowledge of:

  • Interpret and apply legislation, analyse, evaluate, apply, and present complex information, including statistical data, to support policy development and corporate directions
  • Work autonomously, meet critical deadlines, achieve agreed outcomes, manage competing work tasks, and contribute effectively as a member of a mutually accountable team.
  • International, trade and economic growth policy and trends, and identifying opportunities for effective public policy intervention.
  • Departmental, cross-government and Ministerial office functions and activities relevant to a policy context and the provision of formal advice to senior officers, executives, and Ministers.
  • Experience in the coordination and operational management of committees and working groups of senior government and industry staff

You will also have:

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication to effectively liaise with, brief and advise people from a variety of backgrounds and levels.
  • The Ability to negotiate, consult and undertake meeting processes with diplomacy and tact.
  • The ability to work autonomously, meet critical deadlines and manage competing demands
  • The demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a member of a mutually accountable team.

Remuneration:

Competitive salary $98,478 to $104,165 pa plus superannuation

Qualifications:

  • Essential : nil
  • Desirable : A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Economics, Public Policy, Politics)

Special Conditions:

  • The role will be offered as a full-time (37.5 hours per week), short term contract position until December 2025
  • A Satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check (NPC) will be required prior to employment.
