The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) offers a rewarding opportunity to practice criminal law in a supportive and collegiate environment. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is offering opportunities for Solicitors at all levels of experience to join the Office. This is an opportunity to embark on a career-defining legal role which will see you work alongside peers and experienced solicitors and prosecutors in the dynamic environment of the ODPP.
The primary purpose of the Solicitor is to contribute to the conduct of legal matters through the South Australian Judicial system. You will have daily interaction with legal and non-legal staff within ODPP as well as a wide range of stakeholders including SAPOL, defence counsel, court officials, victims and witnesses. The duties and responsibilities performed by a solicitor include preparing ODPP files for prosecution, liaising with victims of crime and appearing in court on the instructions of the Director in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of South Australia.
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong sense of social justice and hold integrity as a key personal value. Candidates will be considered at a level commensurate with their legal practicing experience.

About the Business

The ODPP is an office of approximately 185 staff, comprising both legal and administrative functions. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was established through the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, 1991 to provide an effective, fair and independent criminal prosecution service for the people of South Australia. The Office is committed to the highest ethical and professional standards.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

Employment-related Screening Check required.

Some out of hours work may be required.

Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.

Applicants are required to be currently admitted or eligible to be admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and hold or be eligible to hold a practicing certificate.
