The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Workforce Development Officer to provide a critical role within the Counter Terrorism Coordination unit.

About the Business Unit

Counter Terrorism Coordination (CTC) within Sentence Management Division, is responsible for the operational strategic direction of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) across Corrections Victoria and Justice Services. CTC ensures that CJS' approach to CVE evolves with current and emerging evidence of good practice in the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals at risk of committing or who have committed religiously or ideologically motivated violent extremism.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the Senior Workforce Development Officer is responsible for developing and facilitating CVE training to various levels of operational staff across Corrections Victoria and Justice Services. The role is critical in leading the implementation of the statewide CVE training strategy, ensuring a workforce that can effectively respond to violent extremism risk and provides opportunities for disengagement, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

As the Senior Workforce Development Officer, some of your duties will include:

  • Leading the delivery of countering violent extremism awareness training for specific staff groups across Corrections and Justice Services (CJS).
  • Providing expert consultation and advice on violent extremism evidence-based practice to inform training and learning development needs of prison and CCS staff.
  • Collaborating and supporting Learning and Development to ensure the appropriate integration of CVE content within relevant training programs for CJS staff.
  • Initiating the identification and analysis of emerging issues and trends in staff to build staff awareness of individuals at risk of violent extremism.
  • Negotiating and liaising with a wide range of senior managers and service providers on a range of complex program development and delivery issues.
  • Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and develop a shared commitment to the delivery initiative in the field of CVE.
  • Representing CJS at a range of forums or committees and collaborate with key stakeholders.
  • Undertaking professional development activities to maintain knowledge in the field of violent extremism.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of the corrections and criminal justice environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication and ability to prepare high-quality written material.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in risk identification and management, whether prison or CCS based.

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be highly regarded.
