Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The County Court of Victoria is established pursuant to the County Court Act 1958. It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears over 12,000 criminal, common law, and commercial cases each year. The County Court has unlimited monetary jurisdiction in common law and commercial matters. In its criminal jurisdiction, the Court hears all indictable offences except treason, murder, and related offences.
There are a total of 80 Judges of the Court and over 300 staff, including judicial support staff. The County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings at 12 circuit courts situated in major centres throughout regional Victoria.

About the Role
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Confirmation of Aboriginality must be supplied when applying for this role.
Reporting to the County Koori Court Manager, the Senior Koori Court Officer is responsible for providing high level support to the Manager, Koori Court in facilitating the operations of the County Koori Court (CKC) and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and their families, presenting at court.
This role will require you to:
* proactively build and maintain relationships between the County Court, the Victorian Aboriginal Community and other key stakeholders - including prosecutors, legal practitioners and corrections staff
* plan and organise County Koori Court hearings, provide culturally appropriate information and support, and work with Elders and Respected Persons appointed to the Court
* monitor data, contributing to the County Koori Court's evidence-base and to continuous quality improvement
* coordinate adminstrative tasks relevant to the operations of the CKC across relevant locations
* provide high-level advice to County Koori Court Judges on programs and services available in the community to support County Koori Court participants
* proactively build and maintain strong relationships with Elders and Respected Persons, supporting their crucial role in the court process and ensure a culturally safe workplace
* represent the County Koori Court at local forums such as the Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committees, as necessary
* coordinate the development and implementation of practices, policies and procedures that support improved outcomes for First Nations peoples
This role is based in Melbourne but involves regular regional travel.
About You
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
* sound knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal culture, society, and an ability to communicate effectively with Victorian Aboriginal people
* demonstrated experience in providing culturally sensitive support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
* knowledge of the Victorian Justice system, particularly related to Koori justice, solution focused courts and therapeutic jurisprudence
* an appreciation and sensitive approach to the needs and aspirations of Victorian Aboriginal communities
* experience and knowledge of administration of courts
* ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders
* strong ability to use case management systems and relevant databases, to identify and analyse trends
An Australian Driver's Licence is essential for the role, which operates across Victoria and involves intrastate travel.
