Write your stories and teach Creative Writing with us in the heart of Perth.
Are you a passionate creative writer and scholar, committed to teaching the next generation of emerging writers? We are looking for an experienced creative writing lecturer and accomplished scholar to join our multi-campus team to nurture emerging writers and critical thinkers through your creative practice. While your creative writing experience is essential, English or Literary Studies skills are also highly regarded. This position offers exciting opportunities to develop and teach innovative courses across our undergraduate Bachelor of Creative Writing, postgraduate accelerated online Master of Creative Writing, and potentially into our Bachelor of Arts English major.
From 2026, you will be based at our brand-new city campus, in facilities that are purpose-built for creative disciplines and educational best-practice. You'll have the opportunity to drive new initiatives that integrate work-integrated learning, research, and community engagement. Working alongside colleagues in Communication, Journalism and Broadcast Media, Design, Screen Production, and Visual Arts, you will play a key role in strengthening the Creative Humanities' presence in the centre of Perth and surrounded by organisations that seek to tell WA stories. As part of our Communication and Culture academic group, you'll contribute to a rich and supportive learning and research environment. For candidates demonstrating sustained excellence and educational leadership, ECU offers pathways for advancement to Associate Professor.
About the School and the University

The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) is one of the largest at ECU with many diverse disciplines arranged into three main clusters: Creative Humanities; Psychology, Criminology and Counselling; and Social Sciences, Social Work and Youth Work. The Communication and Culture group is one of the Creative Humanities’ groups, working alongside Visual Arts, Screen and Media Production, and Design. The School operates across four campuses, with more than 100 academic and professional staff, and has a strong online education presence. The School’s purpose as defined by its 2024–2029 plan is to help people be informed in their lives, navigate their way in a complex global world, solve the intersectional problems which confront individuals and communities and be engaged and ethical in their acquisition, application and advancement of knowledge. In 2026, the School will begin to operate its Creative Humanities program from our new ECU City Campus while maintaining and expanding operations at the Joondalup and South-West (regional) campuses and building our program at the newly opened ECU Sri Lanka campus.
Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, you will require experience as a published author, as well as in teaching and developing courses in a tertiary institution.
You will need to demonstrate that you can:
teach effectively with a student-centred approach that facilitates active learning and supports students from diverse backgrounds; coordinate courses in Creative Writing, such as our Bachelor of Creative Writing; maintain a practice as a creative writer and researcher, engaged with WA’s writing community and with the publishing industry. implement innovations in teaching and research that reflect emerging technologies and industries; sustain our engagement with alumni and future students; and work collegially with staff across varied disciplines with a commitment to inclusion and diversity and to producing excellent learning experiences.Ideally, your background and experience may also equip you to teaching into our English major. You will be expected to demonstrate personal attributes congruent with the University’s values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry, personal excellence, and courage.

Benefits & Remuneration
This position provides a full-time salary of $138,726 to $159,403 p.a. plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
