The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Workplace Relations Advisor , CV Strategic Projects to provide a critical role within Custodial Operations.

About the Business Unit

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria. The Corrections and Justice Services group, comprising Corrections Victoria (CV), Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in the department in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.

Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult prison system and is responsible for achieving the appropriate balance between a safe, secure and humane system while providing programs and services that seek to rehabilitate people through addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. Corrections Victoria is currently delivering a range of strategic projects that support reforms across the prison system.

About the Role

Full time, fixed term position up to 8 months.

VPS Grade 5 role: $109,730 - $132,764 per year plus superannuation.

This role reports to the Senior Project Manager of the CV Strategic Projects team and is a key contributor to a small team primarily focussed on implementing operational change, preparing our people for change and ensuring successful project outcomes.

The Senior Workplace Relations Advisor is responsible for the provision of strategic and specialist advice on complex HR/IR issues pertaining to implementation of reform initiatives. Whilst maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of current internal and external issues and risks, the Senior Workplace Relations Advisor is responsible for making recommendations and determining solutions that provide options for decision making, commensurate with Legislation and DJCS policy.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide high level subject matter expertise and advice to management and staff on a broad range of human resource and industrial relations issues.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current internal and external issues and risks that may impact project delivery and be able to respond, investigate and advise in a responsive manner.
  • Provide authoritative advice to managers and staff on a range of matters relating to current policies and procedures, entitlements and requests including industrial instruments such as the VPS Agreement.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and awareness of key issues impacting the department and prison locations.
  • Experience in, or strong understanding of industrial relations and generalist human resources functions and the provision of expert advice across a broad range of HR functions.
  • Experience in the preparation of policies, reports and briefs along with highly developed information analysis and conceptual thinking.

Qualifications/requirements

  • Qualifications/s or experience in industrial relations and generalist human resources functions is desirable.
  • Previous experience in the public sector, preferably in justice and/or community service-related environment.
