Senior Economist Analyst
  • Salary: $109,730 - $132,764 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Full-time – Ongoing role
  • Usual hours of work: Full time
  • Usual work location: 289 Wellington Parade South, East Melbourne VIC 3002 (flexibility may be available)

The Role

As a Senior Economist Analyst, you will work with a team of economic modellers and analysts to deliver the Victorian Skills Authority's (VSA) economic models. You will also work closely with government stakeholders to integrate modelling outputs into critical decision-making processes. You will help lead the development and refinement of economic modelling techniques and methodologies, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Support the delivery and improvement of key economic models and analytical products, providing expertise to refine and enhance existing models and analytical approaches.
  • Apply a sound economic framework and advanced analytical tools (R/Python) to analyse and report on labour market and training system data and generate high-quality insights about current and future skills requirements for industries, occupations and regions.
  • Deliver, update and enhance a range of labour market analysis and insights products, including the Employment Projections dashboard and Industry skills profiles.
  • Provide expert advice on labour market trends, skills demand, and data analysis methods to support decision making on workforce planning and vocational training delivery, and decision-making.

The Team

The position of Senior Economist Analyst is in the Analysis and Insights branch which sits within the Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) group.

The key role of the Analysis and Insights branch is to deliver cutting edge advice on skills needs, labour market intelligence and VET performance in Victoria. Its program of work includes:

  • developing high quality projects such as the Victorian Skills Plan.
  • delivering a survey program to approximately 30,000 Victorian employers of apprentices and trainees and around 180,000 Victorian VET students.
  • generating detailed insights into VET quality, performance and outcomes.
  • forecasting labour demand, estimating VET training needs, assessing skill shortages, modelling skills trends and conducting sophisticated analysis.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Specialist Expertise in Research, Analysis & Evaluation : Demonstrated experience in economic modelling and forecasting and assessing competing analytical approaches to support the delivery of complex economic models.
  • Conceptual and Analytical Ability : Proven ability to navigate complex concepts and apply analytical skills to problem-solving. Experienced in analysing complex datasets using R or Python, producing clear and insightful quantitative and qualitative analyses with actionable conclusions.
  • Written Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to prepare and deliver complex analytical reports, presentations, discussion papers and briefs using clear, concise, and grammatically correct language.
  • Stakeholder Management : Proven experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
