About The RoleThis is a permanent full-time position working within Council's Environmental Services Department. Lead and manage four direct reports within the Land Management team towards meeting Council's biodiversity responsibilities. This role is instrumental in maintaining the timely progress of Development Applications and overseeing the implementation of certain biodiversity and land management activities, such as the promotion of biodiversity stewardship, and biodiversity awareness through community engagement.
Reporting directly to the Lead - Land Management
- Lead and manage the operations of biodiversity staff, finances and activities, in accordance with Council policy, procedures and objectives
- Assess development instruments and referrals including planning proposals, subdivision proposals and development applications
- Promote and implement formal biodiversity stewardship processes under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (NSW)
- Promote awareness of biodiversity within the Shoalhaven community using media, field days, presentations, etc.
- Oversee implementation of biodiversity and stewardship agreement activities
- Make recommendations on improving relevant practices and procedures to ensure efficient and effective, customer-focused service
About You
To be successful in the position, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in the research, analysis and development of environmental policy, strategies and plans relating to environmental and ecological matters
- Thorough understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW), Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (NSW) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) and related instruments
- Demonstrated experience in the practical implementation of ecological sustainable development principles (ESD)
- Class C Driver's Licence
