Description:
As a lawyer, you will provide timely, accurate legal advice and minor assistance to clients. You will also provide expert information to staff and external stakeholders about client matters and have the opportunity to contribute to policy, law reform and service delivery initiatives. We support our staff through ongoing professional development opportunities and mentoring, and a balanced approach to work.The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:
- Provide legal advice and information across all areas of law to clients and the public around the state by phone, videoconference and face-to-face. Explain people's legal options and when needed, refer them to other agencies.
- Provide minor assistance, such as writing letters, reading documents and preparing court documents.
- Provide advice to Legal Aid Queensland staff about merit assessments for grants of aid. This includes completing a checklist, determining each matter's likely success and recommending whether a client receive aid for legal representation.
- Support Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform and legal service delivery initiatives as required, and participate in the development of team plans and work practices.
- Liaise with key stakeholders in the justice system and Legal Aid Queensland about client matters.
- You have knowledge of law and procedure across various jurisdictions and have experience providing advice. You are committed to self-development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the law and procedure.
- You can build and sustain positive relationships with team members, contribute to team planning and suggest improvements to work practices.
- You communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner in both oral and written formats. You can communicate effectively and present to external stakeholders.
- You have proven ability to deal with clients with complex needs in stressful situations.
