Regional Director

The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers, Local Government Division is seeking a senior team member - this is your opportunity to lead and manage a network of regional offices in the delivery of departmental local government services, programs and priority projects of the North region which encompasses 37 councils, from Isaac, west to Mount Isa and to the tip of Queensland including the Torres Strait.

The Regional Director will lead service delivery to local governments and other parties in the region through stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with senior executives and teams within the Department, and across government.

In The Regional Director Role, Your Responsibilities Include

• Lead the strategic planning and delivery of the department's local government programs, identifying improvement initiatives and mobilising people and resources to deliver services to Local Government in the Northern region;
• Be the principal source of advice to the Director-General, Deputy Director- General and Executive Director (Strategy and Service Delivery) within Local Government Division and other government agencies on all regional issues relating to departmental business and drive timely and quality regional deliverables;
• Represent the Minister, Director-General and senior executives on departmental business as required;
• Provide regional intelligence for departmental programs and be a contributing member of the Strategy and Service Delivery Leadership Team.
• Foster professional relationships, constructive partnerships and strategic alliances with local governments, across the department and with other government agencies and key stakeholders to:
• ensure sound governance through the local government system
• build capacity and capability through training and tools
• broker solutions on local government matters
• advance the State's strategic priorities for local government
• connect with local government though a regional advisor network and regional offices.
• Actively support the successful and on-time delivery of the department's local government funding programs.
• Lead the delivery of major projects as required.
• Ensure effective regional coordination of responses to correspondence, briefs, submissions and ministerial requests, including directing and facilitating briefings, recommendations and advice to the Executive Director and Deputy Director-General.
• Work with the Regional Director (Southern) to develop and implement a consistent integrated approach to service delivery across all regional offices, ensuring practices are consistent with the Department's systems, government policies and legislative requirements.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the Department's corporate values and foster an environment of strong customer service, teamwork, open communication, leadership and innovation.
• Build and maintain cohesive and functional relationships within the Northern Region and across Local Government Division to deliver the shared objectives of the Division and promote a “one LGD” environment.
• Contribute to establishing the division as a leader in the Local Government sector.
