Description:
As a member of the Queensland Police Service Subpoena Team, you will contribute to the administration of justice, in both Queensland and Australia, through the provision of information to various courts and tribunals. The team is the authorised delegate to accept service of summonses and subpoenas and other formal notices to produce records on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.The team ensures compliance with information requests served on the Commissioner, and that records are produced to courts and tribunals within required timeframes..
Your Key Accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Accept subpoenas, summonses and notices served upon the Commissioner, ensuring that the documents are in the correct format and comply with relevant legislative requirements and guidelines.
- Process complex subpoenas, including criminal matters, and other legal processes served upon the Commissioner, including checking for privileged material in compliance with court ordered and legislative timeframes.
- Liaise, consult, negotiate and provide advice to internal and external clients and organisations in relation to specific subpoenas and other legal processes.
- Provide briefings to Legal Officers in relation to specific subpoenas and other legal processes where objections are raised on behalf of the Commissioner, to ensure that the Service is represented in any subsequent legal proceedings.
- Provide advice to the senior information officer on issues affecting the effective delivery of documents in response to subpoenas and other legal processes.
