Senior Media Advisor opportunity

  • Approx. $65-$75 per hour plus Super dependent on experience
  • Assignment duration is up to 3 months. Immediate Start
  • Melbourne CBD location/Hybrid Arrangement

About the role

Our client, a utilities provider, currently seeks an experienced Senior Media Advisor to join them on a short-term assignment for a duration of up to a period of 3 months based in Melbourne CBD. As the Senior Media Advisor, you will develop proactive media plans, stories and communications assets and reactive media statements.

You will also ensure that the organisation's spokespeople are properly briefed and help to maintain a proactive program of positive PR and effective issues preparedness.

Key Accountabilities

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Driving proactive PR management programs building brand recognition and maximizing positive sentiment of the brand and services in the community.
  • Developing and maintaining a calendar of positive PR activity and supporting media statements, briefing documents and support materials.
  • Planning and pitching positive stories to media to promote the organisation and generate increased positive coverage.
  • Fostering and maintaining strong relationships with media and journalist relationships.
  • Managing any reactive media enquiries to proactively manage out any media issues to protect the organisation's reputation by minimizing negative commentary.
  • Responding to media enquiries, researches and develops reactive media statements, briefing documents and support materials within tight deadlines.
  • Overseeing real time and daily media monitoring and surveillance, including daily media monitoring and reporting by preparing and distributing the daily media report and alerts to management, flagging emerging opportunities and issues.
  • Acting as the media on-call representative and participates in rotating on call roster and escalation ensuring effective media support for incidents and issues.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge and skills that you will need to demonstrate include:

  • Exceptional media management experience and PR skills.
  • Highly creative with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven and demonstrated ability to plan and implement effective PR programs and media outreach to support delivery of business priorities, projects and campaigns via owned and earned channels.
  • Demonstrated proactive and reactive media management skills, including preparation of spokesperson briefing and support materials.
  • Experience working closely with a wide range of business stakeholders to identify opportunities and develop messaging.
  • Sound commercial acumen and judgement gained in large or complex organisations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an agile cross functional team while working with a high degree of responsibility to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Media, Communications, Marketing or related field
