About the role:

The trend of increasing learner complexity is well documented in the literature. Increasing numbers of children and young people are being identified with complex learning difficulties and disabilities often with co-existing conditions such as autism and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Increasing numbers of children in schools who have difficulties arising from premature birth, have survived infancy due to advances in medical interventions, have rare neurological disorders and foetal alcohol syndrome. Behavioural issues are becoming increasingly more challenging and complex with a range of co-morbidity factors including mental health) that require skills and expertise to identify underlying causes to better address the needs of the children and young people.

Student Support Services works with schools and preschools to provide support to assist them in meeting the needs of all children. The role requires the incumbent to participate in the implementation of a service model that supports the provision of integrated and targeted services to meet the needs of children and young people with additional needs.

The Flexible Services Response Team, as part of Student Support Services, is committed to providing a range of flexible service delivery approaches inclusive of FIFO, Tele Practice, External Provider Program and cross office support.

This role is responsible for Psychology assessment and intervention services to students and children using a hybrid approach of FIFO and remote techno logy as a mode of delivery. Telepractice provides accessibility to children and students who may have limited access to in -person services due to geographical, physical, or other barriers.

AHP1-

The provisional psychologist is a member of an inter-disciplinary team and works with children and young people with developmental, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural and physical difficulties, and exceptional needs (including giftedness) and their families. The provisional psychologist works under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist and/or other psychology supervisors and works with preschool and school staff, and parents to develop evidence-based psychology interventions that include proactive, targeted and intensive strategies that can be adapted for learning and home contexts. The provisional psychologist works under the direct professional supervision and direction of the Senior Psychologist and/or other agreed supervisor, in accordance with the requirements of provisional psychologists of the Psychology Board of Australia.

AHP2-

The psychologist as a member of the multi-disciplinary team will work closely with the senior psychologist to deliver evidence-based interventions to children with developmental, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral and physical difficulties, and exceptional needs (including giftedness) and their families within this tele-practice mode of delivery. The psychologist works under the professional support and directions of the senior psychologist.

AHP3-

The Psychologist is a key member of an inter-disciplinary team and works with children and young people with developmental, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural and physical difficulties, and exceptional needs (including giftedness) and their families. The Psychologist works with preschool and school staff, and parents to develop evidence-based psychology interventions that include proactive, targeted and intensive strategies that can be adapted for learning and home contexts. The Psychologist at this level has demonstrated specialisation and expertise in working with children and young people with additional and complex needs and will be required to provide expert professional support and supervision to other Psychologists as well as maintain a professional caseload.

Qualifications:

AHP1-

Essential: An appropriate degree or equivalent which entitles registration (provisional) with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Desirable: Nil.

AHP2-

Essential: Current and full registration (general) with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Desirable: Nil.

AHP3-

Essential: Current and full registration (general) with the Psychology Board of Australia. Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor.

Desirable: Area of practice endorsement – educational and developmental psychology and/or clinical psychology and/or counselling psychology.

Special conditions:

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration:

AHP1 $68,478 - $83,594 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (11.5%)

AHP2 $88,255 - $102,240 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (11.5%)

AHP3 $104,180 - $111,746 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (11.5%)

The remuneration for this role will depend on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
