About the team –The AIS Sport Engineering team is responsible for working with Athletes, Coaches, Sports and the National Institute Network (NIN) to identify, prioritise and deploy an applied technology, innovation and human performance agenda. The Team develops and produces customised equipment solutions for Australia’s Olympic and Paralympic Athletes.
The AIS Performance group’s primary purpose is to lead the system implementation and iteration of Australia’s Win Well Strategy to optimise Australia’s competitive advantage. To do this, we lead the design and delivery of innovative evidence-informed processes, programs, services and support that unites and enables the high performance system and people to win well.
About the role – This is a full-time role to support the delivery of custom sporting equipment and instrumentation in support of Australia’s elite Olympic and Paralympic athletes, Coaches and Staff from the AIS and NIN (National Institute Network). You will work collaboratively as part of a high performing team/organisation, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders to deliver high quality sporting equipment project outcomes. You will be comfortable working in a rewarding, high cadence, exciting environment delivering equipment projects to an aerospace/professional motorsport standard. Specifically, using your multi axis CNC Programming, Setting and Machining expertise, you will be responsible for working closely with Sports Engineers and key stakeholders to provide innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions, delivered with the highest quality, to meet project delivery timing.
About you –
• Completed qualification in Fitting and Turning, preferably, or Certificate IV in Engineering – CNC Machining.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience collaborating with engineers, delivering machined project outcomes.
• Experience machining a variety of materials from plastics to metals including various grades of aluminium, steel, and titanium.
• Experience in designing appropriate tooling and fixtures to support the efficient production of components.
• Workshop production skills. i.e. manual machining, 3D printing, equipment assembly and modification, and tig welding capability is desirable but not essential.
• Experience with risk management, planning and strategies.
• Sports industry experience is highly desirable
