Description:
A deep understanding of all aspects of competitive sport - from grassroots right up to the world stage - is your key to winning this prestigious leadership role.- Well known & connected, hands-on executive with courage + self-assurance
- Superior CEO skills ideally gained in peak body/sports/tourism environment
- Based Gold Coast. Significant salary package + super + vehicle
With the 2032 Olympics approaching, Aussie sport and sports-linked tourism are again in the world spotlight. And no-where more so than in the iconic, golden beach sporting cultures of Queensland. This high-profile role offers an exceptional opportunity to become the expert representative of the nonprofit peak body that speaks for all surf-based organisations in Queensland.
Backed by a small, professional team and working with a committed, multi disciplined voluntary Board, you’ll be the face of the organisation, right up there at the front of all that’s happening. Articulate and comfortable facing the media, community, existing and potential partners, you can confidently engage diverse stakeholders with stories that move the hearts and minds of your audience.
But it’s not all show! While advocacy, relationships and profile building are vital capacities, this is a leadership role for a seasoned CEO, with fine, market-proven back-end management skills.
These include business development and growth, financial reporting, stakeholder and membership management, team nurturing and training, funding, compliance, board interaction - and many other complex capabilities required to successfully drive a volunteer driven organisation.
High energy, determination and an unshakeable work ethic will also be part of your tool kit. As are a driving passion for sport, progressive thinking and entrepreneurial flair. This is an unqualified equal opportunity leadership position.
Additional to these desirable attributes and your practical experience growing organisations powered by professional sports, you will need appropriate business qualifications, financial acuity, a strong grasp on sales and marketing and more than a passing appreciation of tourism. Clearly, the ability to form and nurture enduring relationships is also essential to this leadership role. So, it’s expected you’ll be well connected, strong in stakeholder management, government relations, and corporate partnerships.
Knowledge of the surfing culture will be beneficial but is not mandatory. Similarly with your exposure to the complex workings of membership-based associations. But your strengths must include a deep appreciation of competitive eventing at all levels, tourism drivers and community engagement as related to competitive sport.
It’s important that your aptitude extends to a clear perception of what young and aspiring surfers want and need to dedicate their talents to taking this iconic Aussie sport high into the future.
This is an exceptional opportunity … Big, bold, complex, people-centric and extremely collaborative, challenging but extremely rewarding to a seasoned CEO with strong leadership skills, great commercial acumen and a lasting passion for influencing the course of competitive surfing in Australia.
