The Queensland Greyhound Racing Club (QGRC) is launching The Q , a world-class greyhound racing and licensed club facility in Yamanto, Ipswich. Opening in April 2025 , The Q will feature three greyhound tracks designed with animal welfare as the top priority.
By June 2025 , a licensed club —including a bistro, sports bar, TABs, and gaming facilities —will open, followed by a dedicated kids’ club for junior greyhound enthusiasts. A greyhound veterinary clinic , launching in late 2025 and 2026 , will play a vital role in securing the future of the industry.
To guide this ambitious vision, QGRC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chair and 4 x Non-Executive Directors to lead the Club into this exciting new era.
We are interested to hear from candidates with a combination of skill sets including:

  • Legal
  • Risk management
  • Financial
  • A local Ipswich leader
  • Animal welfare/veterinary or animal racing
  • Licenced/community club leadership
  • Marketing, brand and events
  • An early career Director with one of these skills

The incoming Chair and Directors will compliment 3 club elected Directors and bring together a Board that has deep integrity, strong governance and commitment and passion for the Club, it’s patrons and the sport.
Chair
As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership, governance, and oversight, ensuring the success of QGRC. You will drive the Club’s vision, represent the organisation publicly, and uphold high standards of animal welfare, stakeholder engagement, and corporate governance.


You will:
Lead the Board in governance, strategic direction, and oversight .

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Chair Board meetings, fostering effective decision-making.
  • Represent QGRC at public and industry events .
  • Strengthen relationships with stakeholders, members, sponsors, and regulatory bodies .
  • Advocate for animal welfare and ethical standards in greyhound racing.
  • Oversee the Club’s financial health, risk management, and commercial opportunities .

Our ideal Chair candidate will be an experience Chair, Deputy Chair or Board Committee Chair with proven leadership capability and strong governance, financial, and strategic planning expertise. You will have skills in the areas outlined as well as a commitment to animal welfare and industry integrity and an ability to foster relationships with government, industry, and community stakeholders.
Non-Executive Directors
Board Members play a critical role in strategic decision-making, governance, and advocacy for the Club. We seek individuals with expertise in the skills outlined as well as supporting a candidate early in their Board career in one of the roles.
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to the strategic direction and sustainability of QGRC.

  • Ensure governance, accountability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Represent QGRC at events and industry forums .
  • Advocate for best practices in animal welfare and greyhound racing .
  • Support membership growth, stakeholder relationships, and sponsorship engagement .

Our ideal candidates will have a mix of the skills outlined as well as experience or understanding of corporate governance, finance, or risk management. Knowledge of the racing, sporting, hospitality, or tourism industries will be well regarded. Directors will also have a passion for animal welfare and industry development and strong stakeholder engagement and advocacy skills.
