Your key role is to lead a number of work teams that support & enable the Community Recovery workforce to deliver key human & social recovery & resilience activities. You will support the Executive Director to drive the branch’s strategic & transformational change agenda & lead strategic engagement & stakeholder relationship management, be responsible for the development & delivery of effective internal & external communication strategies, drive learning & development initiatives that support a skilled & capable workforce & ensure planning, intelligence & reporting functions enable proactive & informed strategic decision-making & business planning.

You will also lead the delivery of extraordinary projects building resilience in Queensland communities, driving the achievement of strategic objectives & alignment with applicable state & federal governance arrangements.

Community Recovery has lead responsibility for human and social recovery, supporting communities to be resilient and recover from natural disasters or traumatic events. The unit is responsible for the delivery of human and social recovery, emotional wellbeing and practical supports through a network of government and non-government partner agencies. You will also lead the delivery of extraordinary projects building resilience in Queensland communities, driving the achievement of strategic objectives and alignment with applicable state and federal governance arrangements.

You will assume the role of Controller, Strategy and Engagement under the State Incident Management Team arrangements during disaster activations, and will represent the department at national, state-wide and other forums.

Key Duties and Accountabilities:
• Providing expert, authoritative, and strategic advice to senior leadership on a range of human and social recovery matters.
• Providing guidance and strategic advice to support organisational development, drive the organisation's transformational strategy roadmap, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Establishing and delivering strategies to optimise business processes, enhance service delivery and mitigate risk.
• Accountable for the planning, intelligence and reporting function, delivering reliable and high-quality information and advice to support strategic decision making before, during and after a disaster event or critical incident.
• Developing and delivering learning and development initiatives that support a skilled and capable workforce, and are responsive to the complex requirements of the branch's diverse staff cohorts.
• Driving the development and delivery of effective internal and external communication strategies, promoting brand awareness and enabling delivery of trusted, timely and accurate messaging across a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Engaging with a range of stakeholders including across all levels of government, non-government social services sector, and managing contracts and Memorandums of Understanding.
• Leading and managing projects that support community recovery resilience strategies, including the application of project management techniques.
• Overseeing and preparing complex reports, correspondence, briefing notes and submission for senior management, the Minister, Cabinet and other diverse audiences.
• Providing guidance, coaching, ongoing assessment and feedback on performance.
• Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of your staff.
• Other duties as directed and required.

During a disaster activation you may be required to work extra hours for an extended period of time and participate in a five days on / two days off staggered roster where your days off may not be Saturday and/or Sunday.

Some intra-state and inter-state travel may be required.
