The Gold Coast SUNS are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as the AFLW Player Development Manager. As a key member of our organisation, you will play a pivotal role in driving the implementation and integration of an elite player engagement and wellbeing program. This program is designed to empower our players to excel off the field, helping them reach their full potential on the field, enjoy their time at the club, and live fulfilling lives beyond their football careers. This role will specifically focus on our AFLW Program.
The Player Development Manager responsibilities:
- Build capability, self-awareness, and autonomy within the playing group.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver relevant programs and curriculum for the AFLW program.
- Deliver a development curriculum and life skills program for the Under 23 Group.
- Support regular communication and collaboration with the AFL and AFLPA on key operational initiatives.
- Oversee the relocation and living arrangements of new players.
- Assist players with off-field engagement such as study, work, work experience, volunteering, etc.
- Use Individual Development Plans to identify trends across the playing group and inform program delivery within the club.
- Support the delivery of other club-based programs, such as Player Partner and Family support, Employer network, Host Family network, player induction, and assisting players in transitioning in and out of the club.
- Coordinate and host parent/family/partner events and programs.
- Build trust and maintain strict confidentiality with players.
- Support the development of appropriate confidential internal & external referral networks.
- Support and lead BHP initiatives.
- Assume match day role for games as required
The ideal candidate will have:

- Understanding of on-field and off-field requirements of emerging athletes.

- Reliable and able to work autonomously.
- Tertiary qualification or Certificate IV in education, health science, behavioral, social science, or psychology field.
- Completion of AFLPA Executive Certificate in Player Development (required within 12 months of appointment).
- Experience working with elite athletes and families (desirable).
- Ability to work within a 24/7 environment (ie weekends, nights and interstate travel required)
