As Our Research Scientist (Microbial Ecology) You Will
- Work collaboratively within a team of scientists and technical staff from within the department and with other research organisations, such as universities and private collaborating organisations to undertake high impact applied research projects relevant to animal production that are based on industry priorities and departmental goals.
- Participate in research projects, that are investigating novel methods to reduce methane emissions in grazing livestock systems which involve both laboratory-based experiments and working with animals.
- Have skills in the fields of microbiology and molecular biology.
- Have experience in planning, developing and conducting experiments.
- Work as part of a team or independently to ensure project and departmental milestones, reporting and budget deadlines are met.
- Contribute to high-quality research project reports, peer reviewed scientific journal articles, media releases, newsletter articles, technical notes and other communication materials arising from project outputs.
- Communicate complex scientific information and project outcomes to various stakeholders, including collaborators, managers and producers.
We are seeking the best suited candidate for the role. We will achieve this by:
- assessing your eligibility and suitability to fulfill the role requirements (including, where relevant, the way you carried out previous roles)
- evaluating your potential contributions to the department and how your involvement would uphold our commitment to equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated experience in microbial ecology including anaerobic microbiology with an understanding of techniques for microbial isolation and anaerobic fermentation, and the use of molecular biology and microbial genomics techniques.
- Evidence of high-quality scientific writing and presentation skills.
- Experience in identifying complex problems and possible solutions including research, comprehension and critical evaluation of relevant technical information and data.
- A Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Applied Science or Science in a field relevant to the position (e.g. microbiology, microbial ecology, molecular biology) from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent academic qualifications.
- For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
