Senior Project Officer - Western Grasslands Fuelbreak Officer

The Senior Project Officer – Western Grasslands Fuelbreaks Management is part of the Forest and Fire Operations Division in the Metro District. The position is responsible for leading the planning, delivery, monitoring and reporting of the fuelbreaks program for the Western Grasslands Reserve located west of Melbourne.
The position will deliver the fuelbreaks program in collaboration with Metro District teams, following review of the Western Grasslands Reserve Strategic Fuelbreak Plan. Fuelbreak planning and approvals processes are to be developed in accordance with relevant legislation and Departmental policy.
This role provides a unique opportunity to bring your fire management technical expertise, project management skills and high level communication skills to lead the Western Grasslands Reserve Fuelbreak Program. The Western Grasslands Reserve is a key element of the Melbourne Strategic Assessments Project and will ultimately cover 15,000 hectares to the west of Werribee. This role will be an essential part of a highly dynamic, collaborative, outcomes-focused team working with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
* An appropriate qualification in science, natural resource management or approved equivalent is desirable.
* Previous experience working in fuel management or land management programs is desirable.
* Demonstrated experience managing projects and contractor requirements.
* Geographical Information System (GIS) skills or ability to acquire these.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2027. The work location for this position is Knoxfield with hybrid work arrangements available.
