About the Barkly Region
The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

Learn about the local cultural at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, spend the day kayaking at Tingkkarli (Lake Mary Ann), or take a walk around the peculiar rock formations of Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) or use your leisure time from work and take a 4WD adventure into the Davenport Ranges. Facilities
Tennant Creek has a well-stocked IGA and several other specialist retail businesses along with a number of cafes, pubs and clubs. Along with a private medical centre the Barkly region’s health needs are met with a 20-bed hospital located in Tennant Creek. Both a primary school and high school are located in Tennant Creek along with a new and modern Youth Centre.

About us
The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). Employing 250 staff, of whom 67% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, we are committed to delivering services for residents of the region.

About the Role
The Governance Administration Officer provides administrative and governance support to ensure the effective functioning of local authorities, committees, and councils. The role ensures compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures while facilitating efficient communication and operations within the governance framework.

The Essentials
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and Aboriginal issues.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate meetings.
• Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities.
• Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures and understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS).
• Current Drivers Licence
• Current National Criminal History Check.
• Current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

The Finer Details
• Full-Time Permanent position paying Level 4 Pay Point 1 of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
• Annual Salary of $61,914.46 per annum ($2,381.33 gross per fortnight).
• Tennant Creek Zone Allowance of $1.89 per ordinary hour.
• 11.5% Superannuation.
• Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.

• Relocation Assistance of up to $5,000.00.
