Ideally located just a half hour's drive from Darwin, Litchfield Council offers the best of both worlds with municipal facilities in a rural setting and the Litchfield municipality offers one of the best places in the Top End to live and work. We currently have an opportunity for a Grounds Person to join our team Thorak Regional Cemetery.
Reporting to the Cemetery Leading hand, this is a diverse and varied role The person in this will perform day-to-day grounds maintenance activities and cremations/burial preparations for the cemetery in accordance with Cemetery operational procedures, the NT Cemeteries Act and legislation. You will be processing cremations and ensuring that the Chapel and amenities are cleaned after each service.
You will also be preparing gravesites and conducting day-to-day maintenance activities on the cemetery gardens and surrounds, including mowing, fertilising and general care of lawn areas, and the pruning and care of gardens, trees and shrubs. You will be utilising a wide range of maintenance machinery, operating herbicide and insecticide spray equipment, maintaining an up-to-date chemical inventory and ensuring memorials are positioned correctly. You will need:
A current full Australian Driver's License Experience in cultivating and maintaining gardens and surrounds Ability to identify, remove and eradicate weeds, pests and plant diseases through the use of appropriate methods
Ideally a Light Rigid License A Certificate in Chemical Handling (or ability to obtain one) and experience in chemical handling A Certificate of competency in tractor, slasher, front-end loader, backhoe and ride-on mower.
