Primary objective
Provide an efficient and effective service to approved clients accessing the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) in
accordance with approved PATS guidelines, including managing the booking, and costing of transport and accommodation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide accurate and timely advice both written and oral to patients, families and stakeholders in relation to all facets of
the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) including Interhospital Transfer (IHT) and Medical Retrievals (non-urgent).
2. Ensure travel and accommodation bookings are made in a timely manner in accordance with PATS guidelines with
accurate and timely data entry into the Travel Management System (TMS) database to ensure it is current at all times.
3. Ensure that all accounts and eligible patient reimbursements associated with the Patient Travel Scheme are checked for
conformity to PATS Guidelines and meet Northern Territory Government legislative requirements.
4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
5. Provide advice and educational sessions to Hospital, Remote and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) personnel in
relation to PATS guidelines together with roles and responsibilities of the various people participating in the scheme.
6. Participate in a 7 day roster as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to facilitate the delivery of high quality customer service including excellent written and verbal
communication skills, the ability to interact effectively and confidently with people in stressful situation or from diverse
cultural backgrounds, including patients and their families, staff, clinicians and stakeholders.
2. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with the capacity to prioritise competing requirements, work
under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining quality control.
3. Proven ability to use a wide range of computer software packages with demonstrated knowledge and experience in
government electronic systems or comparable systems (Records Management Systems, Travel Management Systems,
Clinical applications software, Accounting Systems).
4. Demonstrated experience in organising travel and accommodation in an acute services setting or similar duties.
5. Ability to work effectively in a small, highly productive team environment with limited supervision.
6. Demonstrated experience in interpreting legislative operational guidelines.
Desirable
1. Completed Year 12 or equivalent, possesses a Medical Terminology Certificate or equivalent.
