Position Details
St Bernard’s School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Primary school teacher to teach our Year 5/6 class for the remainder of 2025. This is an opportunity to join a school where the focus is on working with every student to reach their highest potential in all aspects of their development. St Bernard’s has 96 students from 3-year-old Kindy through to Year 6. Classes are small and composite: Kindy/Pre-Primary, Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6. The position is full-time temporary for the remainder of this year, due to leave replacement, with the possibility of a contract extension into 2026.
St Bernard’s is a co-educational primary school located in Kojonup, approximately 255km south of Perth and 150km north of Albany on the Albany Highway. Kojonup is a vibrant, rural community offering excellent sporting and community services and facilities.
St Bernard’s is a friendly, supportive and community-focused school. There is active parental support and excellent collegiality amongst staff. Visual Arts/Drama, Science, Physical Education and Auslan are specialist curriculum areas. The school has a strong focus on the effective instruction of Literacy and Numeracy and teachers work with the Literacy and Numeracy Dedicated Time models, actively collecting and using data to inform planning and instruction for all students. Our school is well resourced and seeks to effectively integrate learning technologies into all classrooms. We have a strong inquiry-focused approach from Year 1 through to Year 6 and our students are able to engage in hands-on learning in our on-site Bush School.

Be fully supportive of the Catholic ethos and exhibit an active personal witness to the Catholic Faith A strong understanding of, and willingness to engage with, an inquiry-focused educational philosophy A sound understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and SCSA reporting requirements Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills in order to create a supportive and safe environment for all students The ability to differentiate the teaching and learning program to cater for a variety of student needs An ability to collect, analyse and engage with student data to inform teaching and learning - with a particular focus on the areas of Literacy and Numeracy Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness and a passion for education The capacity and enthusiasm to build positive and constructive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community
Qualifications Required
Relevant 4 year tertiary qualification in Primary Education Accreditation to Teach Religious Education Learning Area, or the ability to achieve Accreditation to Teach Religious Education, is highly desirable
